Albert Einstein Munny

I planned to make this little figure of Albert Einstein for the munny munth contest few months ago. I sculpted the face on mini munny to see how it will work on munny. I liked it very much, but didn’t have time to repeat it on 7 inches toy, because making Rocky took longer then I expected. This was going to cover celebrity or use of real hair category :) He was waiting on my desk for a while, but I decided to finish him finally. his hair is made of furry material and face is cast in resin over the original mini munny. I am planning to make more copies of grayscale Albert and a colour version some time in future.

At the moment I am willing to make 5 copies of Einstein in grayscale at price 100 Euro per figure plus shipping. If you like him, you can send me an email or post a comment with your details. It will be on first come first served basis.

Eggcore Rabbit as pink Terminator

This is a toy I customized for Vince from 909toy. It is a new brand and new product, just released few days ago. I received a blank to customize for upcoming events end exhibitions. It is very detailed 95mm tall figure. Its the first toy from the series of characters. This model is called Rabbit. When I looked at the model, I was inspired by its shapes and had an idea to create a terminator-like version of the pink bunny from Duracel commercials. I wanted to play with pink flocking! I wanted to make his eyes lit with red LED. And that is what I did.

I soldered 2 LEDs with few wires and attached it to 3 button batteries. The on-off switch is featuring as one of the fingers on right arm. The other two are just plastic rods painted silver. All wires and battery holder fit perfect inside a head. I added small pieces of clear acrylics (painted red with a Sharpie) as eyes. I assembled and glued all parts on its place but left the section openable, attached on one screw, so batteries can be replaced in future.

I walked round all “Art and Hobby” and Eason shops in Dublin and Dun Laoghaire, but couldnt find pink flocking powder. I already started the project and there was no way out. I had to improvise. I bought a pack of pink wool for rug making, the same type I used to make spines for Mr Pricklepants I cut it with scizors for very short hairs and collected it in plastic container. I covered it with aluminium foil and made lots of little holes to create a sort of sieve. I painted the surface with pink colour matching the wool before flocking because I didn want to see the white vinyl shinning under the fur. I painted pieces of surface with white glue and sprincled them heavily with wool. When glue dried it became transparens. At the end I sprayed the furry surface with 2 layers of matt varnish to add it more durability.

If you want to customize your own eggcore go and buy one of  painted models, check this shop and blog for information about next release. http://www.909toy.com/store/

Mr Pricklepants Munny from Toy Story 3

New character to my custom munny collection comes from Toy Story 3 created by Pixar. His name is Mr Pricklepants and he is a charming hedgehog stuffed animal voiced by Timothy Dalton.  I used headless body of mini munny to make him. Its general shape matched exacly the character from the movie. I only needed to drill new holes below existing ones to lower his hands and sculpt his head on top of munnys neck. That was quick sculpt when compared with my previous toys. He is painted with acrylic paints and stitches are made with Sharpie. His spines are made of rug wool, I found in a textiles shop. Its packed in a bag of 160 pieces x6.8 cm and prepared for rug making.

New Toy Eggcore from 909Toy

taozhuang
I was asked by Vince from 909Toy to customize his new toy, which will be for sale in few hours. I am waiting for box, it should arrive soon. It is going for sale 23,24,25 July from 9.00-11.00 Honk Kong time and in very limited numbers!!! It is going to be a big hit, so I recommend to go to his website: http://www.909toy.com/store/ and get one while it last. First come first served.

Every day it will be only 30 black and white, 10 black-gold and 3 wood for sale.  I expect it will sell in few minutes, judging by the comments on other blogs. The toy is unusually complicated and composed from 56 parts!!!( I love details, I am going to add another 50 parts in my custom ;) ) The production process took 2 years and it finished with success. Another models will be coming so give them your support for all the hard work and great design!

Breinstein on usb drive from Infectious / Mimobot

breinstein
I found this little contest before weekend and decided to test my drawing skills on my dusted cheap Trust tablet. I bought this toy few years ago, but never really used and it was lying on the shelf. Now was the chance to try it. I did this Breinstein, because I am looking on my half sculpted munny sitting on my desk. I wanted to submit another toy for munny munth competition – Einstein in “use of human hair” category. I did this mini munny face sketch while waiting for my 7inches being shipped from kidrobot.com. I didnt make it before deadline, but I will finish it for my own pleasure soon.

The voting process just ended. I am here under this link Thanks for all your support!

Munny Young Carl from Pixar Up

munny carl1It is my first custom munny I made. It was customized before Rocky and Shrek last month. I used mini munny so I couldn’t enter to competition with this one. It is a young  version of Carl from Disney/Pixar movie Up. I sculpted his hat with epoxy putty, added shorts and shoes. Glasses are made of laser cut plywood.  This project started my addiction to toy customization. You can try it yourself!

Rocky Munny for kidrobot contest

munny rocky1
This is a custom munny I made for kidrobot’s munny competition. I wanted to sculpt a lot with this one. Original toy’s hand reminded me boxing gloves so I started to think about boxing stars. The first thing on my mind was Rocky Balboa, one of the heroes of my childhood :) I did some research and found this brilliant caricature painted by Sebastian Kruger. I imediatelly saw the Sylwester’s face on munnys head. I needed to extend it verticaly and create huge jaw using munnys ears as a base. It looked like a challenge, so I decided to do it. Here you can see some progress photos.
munny rocky2
The body is from 7 inches DIY toy, but the head is taken from  mini munny. All figure measures 25 cm. Its painted with spray paints and airbrushed acrylics.

munny rocky3UPDATE 15 JULY 2010:  This little guy won second place in “best movie event reenactment” category at Munny Munth Contest !!! Thanks for all who voters, supporters and contestants. You chan check other winning entries here

and the comment by Paul Budnitz, creator of munny, writen on Kidrobot’s Kronicle :

“When I first looked at this toy, I couldn’t figure out where the MUNNY went. But if you look closely (and at the build photos the creator generously gave to us) you’ll notice that Rocky’s short’s are also MUNNY’s legs. Brilliant! Sly is looking a bit old and depressed, which I also approve of because I imagine this is true to life once his career went downhill after he fought Mr. T.  Furthermore, he’s just kicked the crap out of a little Teddy Bear who lies dead on the ground.  2nd prize for a well thought out original design, solid craftsmanship, and for killing the teddy bear.”

Custom Munny Shrek

shrek munnyI played a little with munny customization. This is second mini munny I customized. Its 4 inches tall. I used DIY canvas toy from Kidrobot’s mini munny series – Bub. His body looked like shrek  right from the beginning. I just cut his ears and add nose chin and new ears so it looks more like shrek from dreamwork’s animation. Its painted with montana sprays and acrylics.  It was great fun making it. I became addicted to customization and ordered 8 more munnys, so few more toys will follow.
