I didn’t upload any new figures for a while, but it doesn’t mean I am getting lazy. I was just busy working on few customs, one after another and didn’t have time to edit my photos and write posts. I have 5 projects finished and will publish them soon. I want to start with this little baby dragon I did for Dragons Custom Show which will happen on August 18th at the Sho Gallery in Cardiff. He was also my only submission for Kidrobot Custom Contest 2012 and surprise, it won in the Best Sculpting category! I uploaded my image just 2 days before deadline and didn’t have much hope after seeing hundreds of beautiful designs. It am always amazed how many ways can people approach the same figure. With the prize, I will finally customize the whole set of characters from munny world.Like I said before, you can see my custom in flesh on August 18th at Gallery in Cardiff. It is going to be big event with 50 artists showing their custom Kracka in common theme: Dragons. You probably saw some of them on popular blogs like Spankystokes or Toysrevil. The official website featuring all photos of finished pieces, work in progress photos and news about exhibition is here.

My design concept was inspired by the birth of my baby niece Victoria. I wanted to make cute little dragon which you really want to take home 😉 You know, this big, watery eyes you can’t resist, something like Puss in Boots from Shrek (clever marketing idea heh? 😉 The baby dragon idea just ticked my boxes. I thought about this for a while and realized that 7inch Munny’s head is the perfect size for the eggshell. I cut it open and then decided to open Kracka’s head too. There was no way back I already messed up 2 vinyl toys. I filled Kracka’s head with super Sculpey, formed teeth, added eyes, transformed ears to look like little horns and I had cute little dragon’s head. From this point everything went smooth, I placed the body inside inside the shell and formed new wings, legs and extended the neck. Then countless hours of sanding and I was satisfied with the sculpt. The scales were later painted on the surface with acrylic paints. Everything is painted with matt varnish except of eyes, they are finished with high gloss to get watery effect.
This project inspired me later to start massive animatronic project I unfortunately never finished and this very detailed baby dragon sculpture I made from scratch.
