Here is few more images of recently finished Muppets ring box. You can see how it was made in next section of this post. This handmade and one of the kind figure is based on the poster from the movie. If you are fan of the Muppets, you probably saw it. It depicts Kermit the Frog playing and singing to Miss Piggy on the boat. It was commissioned as engagement ring box or holder for two Muppet Show fans. Kermit is holding banjo and this is where diamond engagement ring will be placed. It is made of soft material with the same radius as planned ring size. Kermit’s hand rotates and lifts on special joint to give access to the ring.
The Muppets, with their beloved characters Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, have left an impossible to erase mark on the world. Their enduring appeal stems from their ability to entertain, educate, and inspire. These iconic puppets have been a source of joy and laughter for generations, thanks to their unique blend of humor and music. Their shows, movies, and live performances have brought smiles to audiences of all ages.
How It’s Made: Muppets Ring Box / Holder
My Muppets ring box or holder is multi material miniature sculpture. Starting from bottom, my standard resin base I used for few of my figures already. I made silicone mold of this piece while sculpting Mad Hatter ring box you can check here. It was spray painted white with blue felt glued under it so it will not scratch surfaces. The boat is sculpted digitally and 3d printed with ABS, so it is easy and fast to sand and scribe. I did not need to sand it smooth because printing lines helped to simulate wood grain of old boat. It was painted with acrylics with light weathering.
I sculpted figures by hand with two materials over metal wire. Arms and legs are made of durable Milliput epoxy putty on wire armature. It gives 1h working time but when sets, its rock hard. I used the same material to reinforce the skeleton in the pose. On top of that there is Super Sculpey which allowed me to work as long as I needed to get the desired shapes. its smoothed with alcohol and brush. I worked in sections, first sculpted heads and hardened them with heat gun. Then added bulk of the body and sculpted some texture on dress.
Umbrella is made of 3d printed basic shape with Milliput details. The rod is made of brass for durability. The hat is made of styrene heated with heat gun and stretched on top of metal sphere. When I was happy with shape, I made small holes and added flower petals. The little holes helped to anchor them for good. The banjo is also cut with styrene and sanded to shape. The round piece which serve as engagement ring holder is made of foam. One of the hands rotate to allow for ring placement. I made the joint using needle and small brass pipe. I painted it all with acrylics with subtle shading. It was so much fun sculpting by hand again and solving problems using all previous experiences gained on my other sculptures and ring boxes.
